As the weather begins to shift from a breezy winter to spring showers, boys volleyball prepare for their upcoming 2017 spring season. Thanks to head Varsity coach Jamie Atkinson, volleyball players have had the opportunity to hit the ball around before the season officially starts. Coach Atkinson invites the school to participate in volleyball open gym once a week.

Practice makes perfect, or at least fairly close. With the opportunity to practice, many players take advantage of the moment and show up to scrimmage.

Senior and Varsity volleyball player Sam Lahti is one student who seizes the moment.

“Open gym is great because it gives us a chance to get out and hit the ball around with each other before our spring season,” Lahti said.

Although many volleyball players who have participated on the team before use open gym as a chance to play together, any student is welcome to join in on the games.

“I like to go to open gym because it allows me to play volleyball with my friends and lets me see if volleyball is a sport I would consider playing this spring,” said senior David Lonski.

Open gym is a great way to bond with friends, along with making new ones. Also, it allows students to practice volleyball before considering whether or not to try out in the spring.
