Antioch Girls Dive Into a New Sport

ACHS gives girl swimmers an oppertunity to represent their school.

New to Antioch Community High School this year is an organized girls swim team, which will give girls the opportunity to represent their school through their current swim team. Although the school does not have a pool, the creation of the official team will give girls who participate in club swim the opportunity to represent ACHS and post their times through a high school rather than a club team.

Coach Jim Hellen, whose daughter swims for the team, describes himself to be simply a “facilitator and organizer” who just helps the girls receive recognition for the work they already do.

“It’s just a way to bring the current club swimmers together,” Hellen said. “The team is something that interests and gives opportunities to these kids, opportunities to learn and opportunities to post times for scholarships in order to swim at the collegiate level.”

The girls’ first conference meet is Saturday Nov. 7 at Stevenson High School Aquatic Center.
