In light of March being a time to celebrate and embrace feminine power, here are five up and coming female artists to watch out for in 2017:

  1. Halsey

Singer and songwriter Ashley Frangipane, known better as Halsey (an anagram derived from her first name), debuted her first studio album, titled “Badlands,” in 2015. The album topped the Billboard 200 chart reaching the number two spot within weeks of its release. Halsey has performed at the widely popular musical festival, Lollapalooza the past two years and is rumored to make another appearance at the 2017 festival. Before the premiere of Badlands, Halsey released an EP in 2014, titled “Room 98,” in her usual style, indie/electro pop. This artist is one to look out for; her music is beginning to be played on the radio and she is quickly gaining popularity.

  1. Maggie Rogers

NYU graduate Maggie Rogers releases music in the style of elecrto pop. Her debut hit, “Alaska”, which she claims to have written in only 15 minutes, has over 3 million views on YouTube. The song was written in reminiscence of a “life-changing” hike she took in the state of Alaska. According to Pitchfork magazine, singer Pharrell Williams described listening to Roger’s song as a drug. Keep an eye out for new music released by this artist coming this 2017.

  1. Nadia Rose

Nadia Rose, 23-year-old rapper from the UK, headlined at London’s Born and Bred festival after another artist had to be removed. Ever since then, her fan base has been growing. Her debut album, “Highly Flammable,” dropped in January of this year, and she won a MOBO Award for her video to song “Skwod”. She was also named a member of BBC’s Sound of 2017 shortlist.

  1. Anne Marie

R&B and pop artist Anne Marie has already had a hit single, called “Alarm,” that boomed and has over 36 million views on YouTube. Her debut album is currently in the works, and it set to drop soon, so keep an eye out.

  1. Billie Elish

At the age of 14, alternative singer Billie Elish exploded into the music industry with her breakthrough song, “Ocean Eyes,” that she posted on SoundCloud in 2016. She has been compared to singers Lana Del Rey and Lorde. While there is no news of an album coming yet, Elish has released more songs and continues to make videos for these songs.
