Senior Desiree Davis goes up in a stunt at the cheer’s Martin Luther King Jr. competition in cheer’s new uniforms.

Shortly after Christmas, the head Varsity cheer coach, Matt Dawes, gave the Sequoit cheerleaders a gift unlike anything they thought they would receive; new uniforms.

The uniforms were given to the team wrapped up like a present and given to them as a surprise at their progressive dinner.

“Coach [Dawes] told us we weren’t going to have enough fundraising money for new uniforms,” senior Ashley Mosquera said.

For her and her teammates, the awe of the new uniforms has not yet worn off. With a new design, the uniforms are black and one-pieced with skirts. These are very helpful in keeping the uniform in place while they perform.

“It’s really comfortable,” Mosquera said. “The skirt doesn’t go up anymore and we don’t have to keep trying to fix it while we perform.”

These new uniforms also keep the team from getting deducted points. According to Mosquera if someone fixes their uniform during a performance at one of their competitions they will lose a point. The team is happy for this gift and is hoping to get a lot of use out of them.

“I’m really happy I got the chance to wear them before I graduate,” Mosquera said.
