Question of the Week: What Did You Do This Summer?

Summer is finally over and the school year is getting into full swing. We set out to reflect and find out what Sequoits did this past summer.

Finding a balance between responsibility and relaxation is the key to a perfect summer.

Summer is the season to do almost anything. With time to pursue your hobbies or just get away from it all, the possibilities are endless. It’s no surprise that we received a wide variety of summer stories from our fellow Sequoits.

For some students, working is the way to go for the summer season. Having a job helps build skills and teach a hardworking mentality for the future.

“I enjoyed working at Dunkin Donuts and having a consistent income,” senior Alex Unekis said. “I enjoyed hanging out with friends, but in order to do that, you need money.”

Sports don’t just run during the school year. Many Sequoit athletes participate in club and travel teams outside of school.

“I played a lot of softball for my travel team,” senior Carlie Gaylord said.

Playing a sport, especially a school sport, gets you involved in the community. Most school sports fundraise as well, so you learn how to communicate with people. Some sports practice up to six times a week, so players become close with people who they can turn to in times of adversity.

Being involved can also mean inspiring kids to do their best. Some Sequoits were staffed at various summer camps throughout the summer.

“I volunteered as a coach for youth lacrosse mini camps to help expand our new lacrosse program for future generations,” senior Josh Sidare said.

In volunteering your time to the community, you show what Sequoit pride is all about by bringing up a generation fitting of the Sequoit name.

One of the best way to spend summer vacation is to get away from it all. Whether it is with friends or family, vacations are a great way to relax and get your mind off of things.

“I went to Minnesota with my mom and two brothers. We spent a weekend fishing and canoeing,” senior Thomas Boeh said. “I’ve never been alone in the wilderness before, so I was a bit scared at first and although Antioch is my home, I feel it’s great to spend time away to relax and take my mind off of things.”

Getting out of your comfort zone is the way to have fun, especially with your family.
Summer was a time to have fun and relax, but now it’s time for school again. Some students may dread the thought of this, but this is our time to learn, have fun and get involved so that when next summer rolls around, you can have the opportunity to make new memories.
