Sequoits Fall Short In Super Sectional Game

The Sequoits traveled down to Concordia University Chicago to face Marshall in the Super Sectional game, but fell short, 48-55.

After beating the Johnsburg Skyhawks for the sectional title, the Sequoits made it one step closer to their dream. The Sequoits would now face Marshall for the IHSA Super Sectional title.

Strong defense was showed by the Sequoits with a one point lead over marshall at the end of the first quarter.

The Sequoits started the second quarter with the ball in their possession. Taylor Feltner got a quick shot off, adding to the Sequoits lead, 12-9. Strong defense was displayed by the Sequoits by keeping the game tied for most of the second quarter until Erika Gallimore made a 3-point shot to give the Sequoits the lead, 23-22 going into halftime.

After a fast break and a couple of shots, Marshall took the lead, 26-23. Ashley Reiser answered back with a 3-pointer to tie the game up 26-26. At the end of the third quarter the Sequoits trailed, 37-44.

The Sequoits could not pull away with the win and ended their season losing to Marshall in the super sectional game, 55-48.

The girl’s basketball team have had an remarkable season. With a final record of 30-4, winning regionals, sectionals and playing in the super sectional game is a huge accomplishment.

“Winning regional is such a huge accomplishment,” senior Rebecca Cleven said. “To make it to the super sectional game was such an amazing experience.”

It was an emotional ending for the team’s seniors: Ashley Reiser, Amy Reiser, Gallimore, Megan Kelly, Emma Dejong and Cleven.

“I am really going to miss my team the most,” Cleven said. “I loved all the memories with this team and I’ll definitely remember getting this far forever.”

With hard work, determination and the love for the game, the Sequoits fell short of a win but made memories to last a lifetime.
