Shin guards are a key component in the game of soccer. They help protect injuries and help make sure that athletes are confident and are not scared to slide in and make a tackle. There are many different brands of shin guards, and the difference between them can be subtle, but important.

Some players prefer shin guards that are attached to the ankle; they provide ankle protection, support and security to the player. Some prefer very light and small shin guards that are not attached, but sit under the socks. The smaller shin guards provide lots of mobility and speed to the soccer player.

“I like the shin guards that are light and unattached, they make me feel faster and more agile when I play or slide,” junior Zachary Rieb said.

`The shin guards that a player wears is all based on personal preference. Socks that are specified for soccer also help keep loose shin guards in place. A player should have a shin guard with sweat wicking material and so should the socks. Certain sock brands have better sweat absorption than others.

Examples of brands with exceptional sweat wicking material would be Puma, Nike, Adidas and Under Armor. Shin guards play a huge role in soccer play, they can keep a player safe and make sure they are playing to the top of their ability.
