The Excalibur Nightclub is one of Chicago’s many haunted buildings.

For some, just hearing the words “Excalibur Nightclub,” tends to send shivers down their spine. Employees certainly believe the club is haunted, and the tales that follow the club’s history are endless.

Near the Rock and Roll McDonalds, and the Hard Rock Cafe, the castle-like club has had countless reports of fires and tragic deaths. The 632 N Dearborn location first established existence as the Chicago Historical Society in 1896, but was later transformed into a meeting place for non-paranormal expected groups such as a school of design, Works Progress Administration (WPA) and even the Loyal Order of the Moose.

The architect of the rustic building had the idea of building the structure to be fire proof in order to save the historical items of the Chicago Historical Society. This intent was dashed when the building erected in flames in 1871, reportedly causing the death of three women. Apparitions or ghosts of these women have been seen throughout the building, having a strong presence on the second floor.

According to “TimeOut,” tales that reside around the club include that it was once a morgue after a boat capsized in the Chicago River.

“It just doesn’t make sense,” junior Savannah Gonzalez said. “I’ve felt something off once before.”

With 60,000 square feet of space and three floors, the possibility of seeing the tragic ghosts from the past are prominent in the minds of those who have ever visited the Excalibur Nightclub. Voices, doors closing and apparitions are just some of the many findings in witness reports.

“I don’t believe in ghosts,” junior Ellie Goodman  said. “I’ll believe it when I see it.”

Whether you have realized it or not, whenever you have gone to Chicago, you probably passed this highly paranormal building. Do you now dare to continue a normal stroll down Metropolitan Chicago in the area of the Excalibur Nightclub?
