The Antioch girls volleyball team placed fifth overall at an invitational meet on Saturday, October 8, at Antioch and Lakes Community High School. The meet consisted of seven different area schools. The Sequoits defeated Belvidere North, Hampshire and Zion-Benton, but suffered losses to both Deerfield and Lake Forest.

Senior Sarah Opolka said that her team performed well over the weekend.

“It was a very long day, but our team performed really well,” Opolka said. “We knew everyone had to do their job and everyone did.”

Opolka said that her teammates junior Katherine Barr and senior Erika Gallimore were leaders on the court and played all day at the invitational. Both Barr and Gallimore were voted by their teammates to receive sportsmanship awards at the end of the competition.

According to Opolka, the Sequoits have had some challenges this season on their way to their win they received over the weekend.

“We are now closer than ever and we are hoping our chemistry will continue to click on the court,” Opolka said. “We all know if we work together and do our parts, our season will continue to get better.”
