Coming off of a good performance at Harvest Christian Academy, the Sequoits made big improvements and dominated in their conference race. The boys and girls cross country teams each took first. The top runners for the boys were seniors Charlie Smith and Luke Menzies and juniors Ryan Johnson, Owen Lane and Kyle Miller . The girls top cross country runners include sophomores Sarah Benes, and Juliana Gonzalez and seniors Lily Highley and Natalie Svarc.
“The cross country team is really improving this year,” Miller said. “We are improving each week and I think we will be very good at the rate we’re progressing at.”
Benes is looked at to be one of the leaders on the team. Being so young, she has time to improve as a runner and leader. She thinks the girls ran very well and knows that there’s always ways to get better.
“I think all of the girls on the team ran very well,” Benes said. “We ran more as a pack on Tuesday, which means that we had a better opportunity of scoring well for our team. We also got most of our varsity girls in the top five at the meet.”
Overall, the cross country teams seem to be making improvements, under their very experienced head coach, Christopher Bailey. Both teams, boys and girls, are looking forward to their upcoming meets and are ready for the competition that is running their way.
