During the game against Lakes sophomore Daniel Fillipone dribbles to the other side of the court to try and get another point for the Sequoits.

The Antioch boys basketball team had an intense game against their biggest competitors and rivals, the Lakes Community High School Eagles.

“The game was crazy being in the gym with all the people in the stands and all the noise,” Varsity basketball player and junior Nick Galante said.

“I was thrilled to be a part of the moment,” Varsity basketball player and junior Andrew Hare said. “I felt really anxious throughout the game because of how close it was. It was different being a part of a game where the gym was so packed, and I have never been in a situation while playing a sport where it was so loud.”

The boys fought hard to keep the score close. It came down to the very end of the game. There was .5 seconds left on the clock, both teams had 47 points and neither team wanted to go into overtime. Lakes had possession of the ball and threw it in. The Sequoits did everything they could, but the Lakes player made a three pointer with .2 seconds left in the game.

“Towards the end of the game, I was getting very nervous but also excited because I knew we could win,” Varsity cheerleader and junior Kristen Taylor said. “I was cheering as loud as I could to help our boys out.”

The Sequoit boys thought that this could be their game, but they unfortunately fell short to Lakes this time around. Even though they may have lost, this was one of the most intense and best games the basketball players have played this year.
