Over the weekend, the Antioch varsity dance team competed in the Lake Zurich invitational. Although the girls did not place, they used this as a building block to get back on track to the road to state.
“It was not our best performance,” sophomore Haleigh Zenoni said. “We still have so much work to do as a team. We will be busting our butts in practice if we want to stay 1st in the conference.”
The girls final performance had resulted in timing mess ups. Many of the girls turns and leaps were out of sync which created point reductions. The girls our still adjusting to their new routine and are working on cleaning parts of it.
“I think we need to be able to be clean while we perform as well and not let the adrenaline make us nervous because we have so much potential,” junior Alyssa Colpaert said.
Though the season hasn’t started how the girls have wanted, they all know what they have to fix in order to place in their upcoming competitions. The Sequoits are going to be undergoing practices in the next few weeks in order to correct what they have gotten point reductions on. The effort and desire to win is what has been motivating the girls to keep pushing.
“I have a lot of confidence that in the next couple weeks we’ll improve and be ready for our next competition,” junior Maggie Quirke said.
The girls compete next at Huntley High school and are looking to place in the top three. The team knows what they have to do to get back on top and get to state.
