The groundhog’s shadow did not appear which means spring 2016 is just around the corner. As winter comes to a close there are many notable trends from this season that need to be reflected upon.

Living in the Midwest means harsh, cold winters. In the past, many have gone to the easy sweatshirts and jeans to keep warm. This season, however, layering along with dressing to impress has taken over.

Ditching the casual t-shirt and jeans, this winter today’s youth have really stepped up the fashion game. Dressing more on the fancy side than casual has been big this winter. Layering was a huge contributor to this. It’s an easy, fun way to keep fashionable while remaining warm.

Long sleeve shirts and flannels have most often been the base for layered outfits. Adding a scarf, jacket, cardigan or any mix and match of these to a simple long sleeve was an easy way to keep bundled up this winter.

Vests have also been a very popular clothing item to layer with this season. They are versatile and come in many styles and colors. It is an easy way to spruce up any outfit.

While women have rocked the layering game this winter, men have taken to the layering trend as well. Many have taken something as simple as a button up and paired it with a nice sweater or cardigan. This not only added layering but added style making their outfit more fashionable.

Any outfit isn’t complete without a well-coordinated pair of shoes. For women, riding boots, Hunters and combat boots have been the major trends for winter. As for men, Oxfords and boots have been quite prevalent.

Many of this past season’s trends go hand-in-hand. Planning a nicely layered outfit is a simple way to dress-up and a sure way to maintain this winter’s trends for both men and women.
