Students were evacuated to a local church following the shooting at Townville Elementary School, where they reunited with their parents.

Tragedy struck the small town of Townville, South Carolina on Wednesday, September 27, as a 14-year old opened fire at Townville Elementary School. Directing his violence towards students and staff, the shooter hit two 6-year old boys along with first grade teacher Meghan Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth and one of the injured boys were released from AnMed Health Medical Center the following Thursday morning after recovering from their minor injuries. However, Jacob Hall, the other boy majorly affected, is in critical condition according to his family who set up a GoFundMe page for him on Wednesday.

“He is due to have surgery on his other main artery as soon as he’s stable enough to do so” said father Rodger Hall.

The shooting took place at 1:45 PM on Wednesday, the teen beginning to fire shots while on the playground of Townville Elementary. Of those affected, Hollingsworth was shot in the shoulder, Hall shot in the leg and the third, unnamed boy shot in the foot, according to Anderson County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) Captain, Garland Major. The undisclosed teen is currently in custody according to recent reports from the ACSO, however the motive remains unknown and investigated.

“It’s crazy that school shootings keep happening. I don’t know what could drive a person to do that,” senior, John Brennan said. “It would take an absolutely sick person to commit such an act.”

Police are also investigating the death of the shooter’s father, Jeff Osborne. After being found lying dead with several gunshot wounds in his South Carolina home, the son is the suspect of this shooting as well.

Although the situation seems to be nothing but sad news, a GoFundMe page continues to uplift the family of Hall, who received the most injuries from the incident. With the money that is being graciously donated by people all around the world, Hall is able to receive the immediate treatment needed to recover from his bullet wounds.

“I think it’s great that over $110,000 has been raised for [Jacob]. It is tough on families dealing with medical bills especially for such a young child,” senior Josh Sidare said. “It shows the generosity of people all around the world, that they would give money to keep a young boy alive and happy.”
