The Marching Sequoits are ready to entertain and excite audiences this year with the performance of their show, under the working title of Video Games IRL. Last season, their show Infected told a story about the outbreak of a deadly virus which slowly took over the band until there were none left standing, the show was a crowd favorite at competitions.

“The band’s hard work and dedication poured into the show throughout the summer and into the fall,” senior drum major Marissa Milone said.

This season, the Marching Sequoits are dialing back on the tension from Infected while shifting their focus to increasing the fun and excitement.

Senior flute section leaders Ashutosh Atre and Zoe Speich are both looking forward to the band’s improvement from previous years.

“Every year we hope to place and even win some competitions this year,” Atre said. “The music and formations are shaping up to be some of the hardest we’ve done.”

With the newly complicated routine comes a greater need for synchronicity, and the marching band hopes to achieve that by practicing long and hard.

“The band is hoping to become more efficient in learning the standard drills and music so that we will be able to add more visual moments and choreography,” Speich said.

All of this work is leading up to the season’s grand finale at the University of Illinois competition in Champaign, where they will compete with bands from across the state.

On their journey to perfect their show, the Marching Sequoits will perform at nearby competitions and at every home football game. They hope to succeed in their performances by bringing the whole crowd together with their new show.
