Hurricane Hermine left a trail of carnage through the southeastern United States last week.

1) HURRICANE HERMINE TEARS THROUGH FLORIDA

The hurricane is the first to hit Florida in eleven years. Hundreds of thousands of people are without power, and many towns along the coast have sustained major damage. The hurricane, which devolved into a tropical storm this weekend, has continued north to the Carolinas and beyond.

2) FOOTBALL TREKS TO MOLINE, BRINGS HOME WIN

The varsity football team improved to a 2-0 record this season with another blowout win, beating Moline 49-28. Junior Hunter Price rushed for 254 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Sequoits to victory. Next Friday’s game is at home against Wauconda.

3) CLINTON, TRUMP BUSY IN OWN WAYS

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton raised $50 million in the last two weeks of August with just 22 fundraising events. Republican nominee Donald Trump visited Mexico this week to meet with President Enrique Peña Nieto. He was surprisingly cooperative with Trump, whose well-known plan to build a wall along the US-Mexico border is widely disliked in Mexico.

4) MUSK, ZUCKERBERG LOSE MILLIONS IN ROCKET

Elon Musk’s SpaceX hit yet another major speed bump this week when a rocket preparing to launch exploded on the pad. The rocket had a $200 million satellite on board, which was destroyed in the explosion. The satellite, owned by Israel, was going to bring internet to much of northern Africa via a Facebook initiative called Internet.org.

5) POLICY ON HEADBANDS CHANGED

A handful of students successfully had a dress code rule changed this week at Antioch, which forbade boys from wearing headbands. The rule change allows them to join their female counterparts in wearing headbands in school if they so choose to. Girls have been allowed to wear headbands for years.

6) GENE WILDER DIES AT 83

The beloved actor, who was in the business for over four decades, passed from complications with Alzheimer’s disease last Monday. He was best known for his performance in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”, which he earned a Golden Globe nomination for.

7) APPLE ORDERED TO PAY HUGE TAX BILL

The EU alerted Apple this week that they owe Ireland the equivalent of $14.5 billion in taxes that they have evaded in recent years. American lawmakers are concerned that this step may threaten economic relations between the US and Europe. Apple, who denies having to pay the massive sum, is expected to announce the iPhone 7 this week.

8) FIELD HOCKEY TRAVELS TO SAINT LOUIS

The Sequoits came up short at the three-day tournament in Saint Louis, finishing the weekend 0-2-1. They spent Sunday watching Lindenwood University’s team play Concordia University. The girls have an away game against Loyola Academy on Thursday.

9) MOTHER TERESA EARNS SAINTHOOD

The Catholic nun spent her life helping the poor in India, where she founded the Missionaries of Charity and helped the poor, sick and dying throughout her life. She was canonized last Sunday by Pope Francis.

10) HOMECOMING WEEK KICKS OFF FRIDAY

The homecoming pep assembly kicks off the week this Friday afternoon, with festivities lasting through the following Saturday’s dance. The powderpuff game is on the Sunday after the assembly for the first time this year.
