On Friday, Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m., before the homecoming football game against Grant Community High School, a meet and greet took place at the south end of the stadium for the Hall of Fame athletes. This year’s six athletes included Allie Anttila, Lindsay Callanan, Nate Hughes, Erin Poss, Lamar Pottenger and Erin Schoenfelder.

Allie Anttila graduated in 2010 and won seven letters in basketball and softball. As an all-state softball player, she was on the 2010 varsity softball team that finished with a third place win at the IHSA (Illinois High School Association) State Tournament. Anttila set the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) mark for the most home runs and total bases when she went on to be a four year starter in softball at Georgetown University. She was then selected to the 2014 All-Big East Softball Team.

Lindsay Callanan was a 2007 graduate and was selected to many NSC (North Suburban Conference) and all-area teams in volleyball and softball. At the University of Northern Iowa, she went on to play softball and was one of the teams hitting leaders her sophomore year. After transferring to Indiana University, she played right field for two years for the Hoosiers.

Nate Hughes, a 2005 graduate, received all-area recognitions in football, track and basketball, as well as several NSC recognitions. In Hughes freshman year, he played football at Mount University. He was a three year letter winner and two year All-CCIW (College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) performer in football when he transferred to Carthage College his sophomore year. He also lettered one year in baseball and four years in track and field.

Erin Poss graduated in 2010 and was the first athlete at ACHS to be selected to the IHSA All-State Academic Team (the top student/athlete award a high school athlete in Illinois can be awarded). She won eight letters in cross cross country and track. She set two school records and earned seven IHSA state medals (the most ever earned in school history). Poss earned a scholarship to run at Drake University.

Lamar Pottenger was a 2007 graduate and participated in football, basketball and track and field at Antioch. He qualified for state in track and field his junior and senior years, being one of the top high hurdlers in Lake County. He earned a scholarship to hurdle at Eastern Illinois University. Pottenger was an Ohio Valley Conference indoor high hurdle champion at EIU. He was also a two time medalist at the Drake Relays.

Erin Schoenfelder, a 2009 graduate, won ten letters in cross country, basketball and track and field. She was the second athlete in school history to qualify for the state meet in four events, and also qualified for state seven times. In 2009, she medaled in high hurdles. She ran at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire where she broke five school records and won seventeen WIAC (Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Scholar Athlete of the Year. In 2013, Schoenfelder was the NCAA Elite 89 award winner with the highest GPA of all participants in the competition.

The inductees walked out onto the football field with pride as they received their awards. After the ceremony, the athletes were escorted onto a float and paraded down Main Street for the annual homecoming parade.
