Boys basketball prepares to face Warren in their last home game

On Tuesday, Feb. 10, Antioch Community High School’s boys basketball team played Warren Township High School as their last home game of the season. Antioch lost to the Blue Devils in the last minutes of the game 47-52, but the final score does not speak for their defensive efforts and fast tempo.

Antioch started off strong ending the first quarter with a 13-10 lead over Warren, but once the second quarter began, so did the turnovers for Antioch. The Blue Devils took advantage of Antioch’s offensive breakdowns during the second quarter and gained a 19-16 lead over Antioch.

Throughout the third quarter, Warren kept their lead by five point. Yet, junior Captian Danny Brito led a great offensive and deffensive effort having multiple steals and uncontested lay ups in the second half.

With just under one minute left, Antioch was down three points to Warren, 45-48. The Sequoits fouled Warren allowing them to increase thier lead by two points. With 8.6 seconds left the Blue Devils were given a intentional foul which allowed Brito to shoot and sink two free throws to bring Antioch within three points of Warren yet again. This was not enough, as the Blue Devils got the ball back and were fouled giving them two more free throws to end the game.

Come out and support boys basketball at their next game at Grant Community High School on Friday, Feb. 13, at 7:00 pm.
