BREAKING NEWS: Round Lake Area School District issues Emergency Closure

An Emergency School Closure has been issued for all RLAS-116 schools due to an ongoing safety incident in the community.

Round Lake School District issued an Emergency School Closure for all Round Lake Area Schools on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023. In a brief email to staff and families of RLAS-116, Round Lake Area Community District Superintendent Donn Mendoza alerted that a high-risk threat had been made regarding the safety of all district students. This email also stated the decision to close all schools for the day as they are a unit-district and share transportation throughout all elementary, middle and high schools.

An official post from RLAS-116’s website regarding the emergency school closure.

This email was sent out to all parents/guardians and staff during the early hours of the morning, providing many families and staff with extremely short notice. The email also stated that school and district officials are working with local law enforcement to best navigate this situation.

The district has put up notices on its website, and when accessed, a notice will immediately pop-up notifying viewers that there is an emergency closing for the day. While information is limited, there is no dismissing that in order to force an emergency close, this threat must have been extremely credible.
