College Planning Night Jumpstarts Decision Process

ACHS event informs, prepares students for the future years in college.

Spring college planning night kicked off in the commons tonight with nine different college and Army and Navy representatives attending. This night was dedicated to helping families navigate finances, college selection, applications and admissions. Students and parents talked to advisers and admissions representatives about specific colleges. They answered questions about anything from what that college or university has to offer to various majors.

Antioch Community High School organized six sessions that offered extra information in different areas of planning for college. The new SAT test that the juniors will take next year, counselor communication website Naviance, the financial aid process and the benefits of AP classes highlighted the specific sessions held in numerous classrooms throughout the school.

The event was targeted toward underclassmen, who said they benefitted from attending.

“It was cool to learn about some different colleges and what they have to offer,” sophomore Taylor Feltner said.

This event gave a good indicator of what college looks like and included many helpful tips to help both parents and students become better prepared for the future.
