Early Snowfall in Antioch

As the threat of global warming and the polar vortex increase, it may start to affect Antioch residents.

The first snowfall hit Antioch early and hard this year on October 31. With winter on the way sequoits talk about how the early snow and cold affects them.

Most people might enjoy a pretty snowfall in December to go with a white Christmas, but with the polar vortex changing so rapidly, days may feel shorter and colder with snow falling earlier.

“The first day it snowed was on Halloween and I had many plans,” sophomore Hailey Russo said. “My dad was in town and we had plans to take my younger siblings trick or treating but they weren’t really up for it so we stayed in like most people.”

The amount of trick or treating for Russo this year was very little due to the amount of snow and wind chill during Halloween.

“The weather seems to be changing very rapidly now,” Russo said “From what I’ve heard it’s because of global warming and polar vortexes. This early snowfall has made easy things a lot harder to do.”

After Halloween, the snow came to a brief stop but it was still very cold outside. The weather was not getting any warmer and soon the snow came again at an untimely matter.

“It had been snowing and football practice was interesting, to say the least,” sophomore Edward Tindell said. “It started out all fun and games but by the end of practice everyone was wet and cold and we were not able to run very efficient drills in the snow.”

As the temperature drops, social and sport life isn’t the only part of life that is affected.

“It has been hard hanging out but that isn’t as bad as how tired I am,” Russo said. “I am waking up earlier and most of the time I just feel down because the sky is always grey and the air feels heavy.”

As the days get shorter and the winter gets closer many begin to prepare for the winter and the cold.
