Overall, Antioch Community High School’s girls varsity volleyball team had a positive season. The team played a total of 13 conference matches and two Regional matches, with a total of eight wins and seven losses. Although the Sequoits lost in the Regional final, the team’s captains and coach feel the season went well.

“I feel like this season was pretty good overall. Sure, we might not have had the best overall record, but we were always working hard and we had a lot of talent on the team,” said senior captain Bianca Ori.

Throughout out the season, the Sequoits faced challenges, but were able to improve as a team. However, there still are some things that the team can do to prepare for next year’s volleyball season.

“I think this season was a chance to see that Antioch has depth in our program, but depth doesn’t translate into mental toughness and I think we need to improve our mental game if we need to take our team to the next level. So, I think it was a good season, a positive season,”  said varsity volleyball coach Jamie Atkinson. “We had a positive record, but I definitely think there are some things we need to improve on.”

There were many special accomplishments that made the season a memorable one.

“I believe our win against Genoa City in the Harvard tournament was the greatest accomplishment this year. They were probably the loudest and one of the most skilled teams we faced in the season, and we matched their intensity and beat them in two close games,” said senior captain Hannah Skoog.

At ACHS, athletic teams always remember the past as they look into the future. The girls volleyball team is no exception.

“I’m ready for a new season. I’m sad to see all my seniors graduate, but I’ve seen that at the freshman and sophomore levels. They won their divisions, so I’m hoping we can see that come up to the varsity next year and make an impact on that,” said Atkinson. “I’m ready for a new year.”
