The girls on the team can agree that they share a strong love for field hockey that won’t go away. Senior Abby Vogel has been playing for four years.

“[Field hockey] is a very close-nit team. We always have so much fun and I just love hockey in general,” said Vogel.

Sophomore Rebekah Cartlidge is the goalie for the Varsity team.

“I’m looking forward to being on Varsity and being able to play with some of my best friends,” said Cartlidge.

Another member of the team, sophomore Ashley Hare, is also hopeful for a successful season.

“I love that field hockey is different and just an overall great sport. I tried out because my sister played when she was in high school, and she recommended it,” said Hare.

The girls are excited to start their new season and look forward to what this year brings, including an annual trip to St. Louis, Mo. for a tournament.

“I’m really looking forward to St. Louis this year; [it’s] easily the best way I could spend Labor Day weekend,” said Vogel.

The Varsity team participates in the St. Louis tournament called “The Gateway Classic” to play other teams that are not within their conference, including teams as far away as California.

“St. Louis is basically where the whole Varsity team goes down to compete in a tournament against a bunch of teams,” said Vogel. “It’s also a really good kick off to the season to mesh the team together.”

In 2013, the girls were champions of the tournament. The team will leave for St. Louis on Friday, Aug.29.
