The girls varsity basketball team played North Chicago High School on Feb. 26 in a crowded gym with eager fans awaiting Antioch’s first ever Sectional Championship. Antioch started off with a great start. They had some struggles in the beginning with making poor passes, but then they pulled through, worked together and became determined to win. Antioch led after the first quarter with a score of 18-9.

ACHS junior and varsity basketball player Madalyn Murillo said, “My most memorable moment was beating North Chicago. We beat them three times this season, and beating a team more than once in a season is very hard to do.”

After half time, the crowd was more energized and ready to win. The Sequoits had amazing defense, good ball movement, and worked really well together. At the end of the third quarter, Antioch was up 40-28.

ACHS senior and varsity basketball player Carly McCameron said, “Its really cool to know that everyone came out tonight just for us, they’re so awesome and dedicated and we were so glad that we had them here to cheer for us.”

The team has been working very hard for this moment. Both teams played extremely well the last quarter. It was really close, but the  Sequoits pulled through with the win and were named Sectional Champions. The overall score of the game was Antioch 58, North Chicago 43.

The Sequoits play 3A powerhouse Monitni on Monday, March 2 at 6:00 PM at Hoffman Estates. Tickets are being sold Sunday, March 1 at noon for the general public. Good luck ladies!
