The Capricorn sign shines bright through this month.

As the new year begins, so does the zodiac season of the Capricorn. In astrology, signs base themselves upon the paths of the sun, moon and planets positioning on the following date of one’s birth. This month is ruled by the planet Saturn, as well as falling into the element of the earth. In turn, a Capricorn is an earth sign.
The main character qualities described in a Capricorn are responsibility, discipline, self-control, natural leadership, a high sense of maturity and craving achievement. Individuals who possess the traits of a Capricorn hold an elevated independence compared to other zodiac signs, not only found in their personality but also displayed in the productivity of an individual’s life.

“I’d say that I’m a responsible person, and I like to have control over stuff like group projects or planning events,” freshman Mycah Thompson said. “I think that I’m good at getting stuff done on time and efficiently like Capricorns are known to do.”

However, with strengths come weaknesses. Some may describe a Capricorn’s attributes negatively: stuck-up demeanor, condescending, pessimistic, self-absorbed and careless. Characterized as being masters of responsibility, when tasks do not involve a Capricorn themself, carelessness may follow heavily. Mainly caring about their own future, Capricorns are hungry for success when only involving themselves. In the long run, they may appear as fragile to other signs. Capricorns do not tend to see the negativity in themselves but view it as solidity in their lives.

“I don’t think they’re necessarily weaknesses, but I do relate to some of them at times,” junior Brant Becker said. “Those attributes make a Capricorn a Capricorn.”
The mascot of Capricorns, the Sea-Goat, is a mythological creature with the body of a goat and the tail of a fish. The tail of this distinctive animal symbolizes the factor of facing fears and protecting the monster of its inner mind. When fear invokes within a Capricorn, it is turned around and used to intimidate what created the dismay; therefore, the challenges that arise within the road to their dreams, running away is starkly not an option. They face obstacles, then move on to the next task. This trait seems to be a staple in a Capricorn’s life.
“I can find myself facing my fears,” sophomore Kathryn DeCremer said.
The mix of a Capricorn’s description with negative, positive and earth-like traits all tie together, creating their compatibility with others. Zodiacs with earth signs pertain to characteristics of hard work, honesty, confidence and stability. The greatest likelihood of connecting with a Capricorn falls into these zodiac signs: Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio and Pisces.
