No Bags, No Drinks Policy for Football Game Friday

For the home varsity football game taking place Friday against Lakes Community High School, Community High School District 117 will be implementing a “no bags, no drinks” policy for all students, whether they are from ACHS, LCHS or any other school. There will be an exception for adults to bring in drinks and women may bring in purses, but the purses will be checked. Adults will be trusted with their drinks.

ACHS Dean Wilbur Borrero said, “This will only be put into effect at this game because this is the last home game [of the regular season]. We are hoping to move this policy to be a regular rule next year, including parents, and is something we are looking at seriously to implement. We are looking to discourage the drinking and things that might be brought into the stadium in bags and water bottles, and this goes hand in hand with what is going on around our country–you can’t go to any sports facilities with bags and open containers. We’re just going right along with what is happening.”

This rule is not new. It was first put into effect at a football game last year before being reconsidered as a rule this year. This rule will be put into full swing next season, but for both students and adults.

Borrero also said that this rule does not affect many students, as most students do not have a problem with this rule and it would only be a small inconvenience to students who do have a problem with it. There is a small fraction of students that may disagree with this rule, but all and all it is a reasonable rule. It is advised for students who plan to bring bags to leave them in their car, but the same rules regarding leaving/coming back to the game will be applied, so it is best to bring no bag at all.

Regarding the “black out to pink out” theme for the game Friday, students will be expected to be responsible, respectful and proud, and be accountable for any and all belongings they bring to the game.
