The popular television series, The Vampire Diaries, is rumored to be making a comeback next year in 2021. Fans are excited to see if this rumor is accurate or not.

After a long run of eight seasons with 171 episodes, “The Vampire Diaries” came to an end in March 2017. Even after the show ended, viewership grew as a result of the show’s addition onto Netflix. Now, rumors are up in the air about a new season being televised on The CW in March 2021.

The series took a different approach on supernatural beings, focusing on two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore. Both men find interest in an ordinary teenage girl, Elena Gilbert. As the show progresses, different life lessons are introduced, ranging from friendships to sacrifice.

Sophomore Mia Kaiser began watching last winter break after receiving recommendations from her friends. Not only has she rewatched the show over and over, but she has also learned a thing or two.

“A big [lesson] the show [taught] me was that no matter what happens within a group of close people, they will always be there through the hard times,” Kaiser said.

According to Pop Culture Times, if the original cast returns for season nine, there will be a greater chance for viewership. The popularity of the past seasons is what raised enthusiasm for another. The only downfall would be that the two main stars, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, wouldn’t be returning for the renewal of their roles.

“The viewers have watched eight whole seasons with the same cast,” Kaiser said. “I don’t think they would watch it anymore with a new crew.”

Unlike Kaiser, freshman Hailey Caya has an opposing viewpoint on the rumored season. Even though she will miss the original characters, Caya wouldn’t mind another season of the show.

“I don’t feel like it will be the same without them, but I genuinely want the rumor to be true,” Caya said. “Even if the cast is different, I think I will end up enjoying it.”

Although opinions may be different, fans can agree that the show is clearly missed. Numerous news sources have reported a season nine, but it hasn’t been officially confirmed by production. If season nine isn’t produced, all eight seasons will still continue to be available on Netflix.
