Safe Drivers at ACHS

Texting while driving is a major distraction that can lead up to car crashes and deaths. Many people use their cell phone on a daily basis and cannot wait to answer as soon as they receive a text or a call.

While driving, a person should always have their eyes on the road and be alert of their surroundings. Although texting back a friend or answering a phone call may only take a few seconds, it is enough time to miss a red light or a pedestrian crossing the street. Cell phones are not the only distraction on the road. Applying makeup, eating, loud music and many more factors effect the way a person drives.

Antioch Community High School’s National Honors Students decided to take on a challenge and create a new club called Operation Teen Safe Driving.

Meghana Atre, a senior at ACHS and an OTSD member said, “It is a program to promote safer driving, starting with ACHS students and our friends. I decided to join because it sounds like a good idea to enforce better driving and getting teens involved in our community.”

On Friday, Oct. 31, members of the OTSD and members of Hubbard’s Cupboard stood outside of ACHS holding up signs to remind people to drive safely. One little thing like a simple reminder can make a big impact in the life of another person. Stay safe, Sequoits.
