The atmosphere was loud. The referees were ready. The players were anxious.

The Sequoits wanted to win.

Starting off the Regional Final on Thursday, Oct. 30, the Antioch Community High School Varsity volleyball team looked great, coming off with a 6-5 lead. However, things started to go down when Coach Jamie Atkinson had to burn one of her timeouts in hope of breaking the Bulldogs’ momentum.

Fired up after the time out, the Sequoits took the floor ready to do some damage.

Senior Maddie Hart had a big kill down the line to start the run by the Sequoits. With Mihovilovich’s serving, the Sequoits were close, making the score 18-20.

With blocking by senior Amanda Spera and key serves by Hannah Skoog, the score was 20-23. With an unfortunate communication error, the Sequoits dropped game one to the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs were not done yet.

Spirits high, and eager to win, the Sequoits wanted revenge. However, Wauconda was able to fend them off, eventually breaking down ACHS’ defense. The final score was 23-25, 12-23.

Losing in the Regional final is nothing compared to what the Varsity volleyball team accomplished throughout their season. They may have lost, but ACHS is still very proud of their Sequoits.
