Culture is all around Antioch Community High School whether someone may know it or not. Freshman Ashutosh Atre shared a little part of his culture with his band classmates last week by performing with a drum called the tabla.

Atre begun playing the tabla when he was six years old.

“My grandpa used to play them,” Atre said. “I started too because it looked interesting.”

Even though he learned to play the drum when he was much younger, he did not reveal his skill to his classmates until this year. He said he didn’t wait long on purpose, instead letting fate take its course.

The tabla originates from India, a sound the students in Atre’s band class said they enjoyed greatly. Atre also plays the flute in symphonic band at ACHS.
