-2 Antioch Sequoits were against the 7-3 Chicago King.

Starting the game off, with ten minutes to go on the scoreboard, junior Griffin Hill ran the ball for a touchdown on a kick-off return. Soon after, junior Weston Fox received the ball to make a touchdown for the Sequoits with just over two minutes in the first quarter. When King thought they were going to make a stellar pass, senior Destiny Dickson intercepted the ball to run it all the way to the Sequoit 20 yard line. Sequoits unable to break King’s defense, sophomore Ben Gutke made a field goal to end the first half 17-12 with the Sequoits in the lead.

With the Sequoit defense unable to make a stop, King scored two touchdowns in the second half, eating up the clock so that the Sequoits had to fight for the win. Offense only got to play for a minimum of five minutes on the field.

As the time was finally running down to the last seconds, seniors Nick Mentone and Matt Stiglic knew Chicago King were going to let the clock run. They slowly walked over to one another and gave each other the biggest hug; knowing that this would be their last game playing together.

When time ran out, defense huddled together on the field patting each others backs and letting their emotions flow. The game ended 17-24. The boys walked off reflecting on a great season that had to end so soon. The boys will never forget this season.

As the Cardinal Crazies chanted, “We still love you!” the boys ran to the team room where the coaches kept telling them how proud they were of their 7-3 season. No matter what the score or their record is, the boys played as a team and that is all we could ask for. Congratulations on such a successful season, Sequoit football! Once a Sequoit always a Sequoit.
