Many movies have been released in the past week, but these movies in particular have been dominating the box office. With movies ranging from suspenseful action films to comedies, there is a genre for everyone. Here are the top five must see movies of the week that should be seen before they leave the theater.

  1. “Arrival”

Coming in at number one, “Arrival” starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner is the top movie of the week. When a mysterious spacecraft lands on earth, an elite team of scientists are brought to investigate. As mankind is on the verge of a global war, Louise Banks (Amy Adams) takes a chance to save the earth, while putting her life and humanity’s life in danger. This movie skyrocketed to number one, receiving a score of 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

  1. “Doctor Strange”

The next movie is “Doctor Strange”. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, this movie has brought great joy to Marvel fans, earning a score of 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. “Doctor Strange” is about a former surgeon who becomes a powerful sorcerer with the help of the “Great One.” The movie originated from Marvel Comics. It has raked in $152 million at the box office in its first week of release and is bound to make more.

  1. “Hacksaw Ridge”

“Hacksaw Ridge” is about the incredible true story of Desmond Doss, portrayed by Andrew Garfield. Doss is known to have saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun in Okinawa, which is said to be the bloodiest battle of WWII. The movie has made over $32 million in box office sales. It captures the true brutality of the war, and the courage of Desmond Doss. “Hacksaw Ridge” has earned a high score of 85 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

  1. “The Edge of Seventeen”

Starring Hailee Steinfeld, “The Edge of Seventeen” is a brilliant coming of age film that gives a true, honest and hilarious look into what it’s like to grow up as a teen in today’s society. It encompasses all the up and downs a teenager would endure in their high school career. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93 percent, this a must-see for teens.

  1. “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them”

Last but certainly not least is “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”. This movie is based off of the book by the author of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling. It’s the first chapter in a whole new fantasy series. The movie scored an 81 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, showing that the magic certainly lives on.
