Shimmery, tanned and bright are three words to describe the makeup trends brought into the beauty world this summer. The summer of 2016 has definitely not disappointed makeup fanatics, with new trends ranging from baking your face to making yourself glow like the sun. Whether you like a natural or intense makeup look, you can for sure find something new to try this year.

  1. Baking

Baking is done by everyone ranging from Kim Kardashian to YouTube beauty gurus. The term refers to letting loose, translucent powder sit on your face, but not blending the powder in all the way. The heat from your face sets your foundation and concealer, and after about ten minutes of letting the powder sit, you dust it off leaving you with a flawless face. The technique has been done by drag queens for years, but has just recently become popular in the beauty community.

  1.  Non-Touring

Non-touring is the summer version of contouring. Typically in the summer months, people tend to wear less makeup because the heat melts it off. Contouring is known for sculpting the face, bringing out facial features and taking forever to accomplish, while it takes about five minutes to master non-touring. All you need to do is lightly apply your regular foundation, grab a natural highlighter and apply it to your cheekbones, brow bone and nose. The trick to non-touring is to not contour, at all. Chances are you have probably already done this new trend without even knowing it.

  1. Bright Lips

This trend always seems to make its way back to the top of the list. Bright lipstick is a classic, standard summer makeup trend. People are wearing colors ranging from bright red to blue. Yes, blue. Makeup sensation, Jeffree Star, has a matte lipstick line with any color you can imagine. If you’re willing to spend the money, one liquid lipstick is $18. A more affordable option is the matte lipstick line from Colourpop, as one liquid lipstick is $6. Bright lipstick is a staple trend for summer, and it was proved again this year that it is staying around for another season.

  1. Bronzed Skin

Bronzed skin is another staple summer trend that makes its way back to this list every year. Being tan is such a huge summer trend in general, and using makeup to get that sun-kissed look is as simple as it gets. To get the bronzed look, all you need is a matte bronzer and a big, fluffy brush. Start lightly blending the product into the top of your forehead, cheekbones and along your jawline. The most important things you need to remember when it comes to bronzer is, it’s easier to add on than to take off; so always start light and blend. This will give that sun-kissed look without hurting your skin in the sun.

  1. Highlighting

Last but certainly not least is highlighting. Highlighting goes hand-in-hand with the bronzed skin look. Highlighters have taken the beauty world by storm with brands such as Anastasia Beverly Hills releasing “Glow Kits,” including four highlighters priced at a total of $40. These kits have gotten so popular that the brand has come out with a total of five kits. To get the glowy look, you follow the same highlighting steps from the non-tour. If you go outside after applying it, and turn your face left and right, the sun should make the product sparkle: that’s how you know you’ve applied it in the correct spots.
