After six years of falling out of love instead of in it, Grace Gelder organized a wedding to marry herself.

Many women say they want to get married, but what if you never found the right man? When does being single become too much to handle? Grace Gelder, 31, would agree that taking your own hand in marriage is better than not having a spouse at all. After an extravagant and out of the ordinary proposal to herself in a park, Gelder immediately started planning for her wedding that took place in Parliament Hill, North London.

Just as any wedding usually has, Gelder treated herself with a wedding dress, emotional vows and even a ring, all of which she presented in front of her family and friends. Finally, Grelder’s unorthodox ceremony ended with her kissing a mirror.

“This time gave everyone an opportunity to reflect on their own ideas of love and commitment,” Gelder said.

She claims that this process of marrying herself was empowering and she strongly encourages others to follow in her footsteps.

Where does one even get the idea to marry them self? Gelder explains that after hearing lyrics from a song written by Bjork, she was motivated and inspired to take action on what would make her happiest.

“A relationship with another person seemed like too much hard work,” Gelder said.

After all, how can you love someone without loving yourself first? Tying the knot in marriage may be difficult, but Gelder has proven that it is surely not impossible.
