Junior Robert Garrity supporting the cause to give hats to cancer patients and wearing his favorite hat.

Students in Antioch Community High School got to wear a hat on Friday, Nov. 14. That is, the ones who donated one dollar to the Heavenly Hats Foundation. For all the students who donated, got the special privilege of wearing their favorite hat to school.

The Heavenly Hats foundation is focused on helping cancer patients and medical patients nationwide. The organization receives contributions, and uses them to buy hats for people who have lost their hair due to their treatments.

Junior Robert Garrity said, “I thought it would be for a good cause, and since our section in the marching band had all matching hats, I thought why not be a group and wear them on Friday for a good cause.”

But wearing hats isn’t the only reason students wanted to donate. Orchestra director, Michael Riggs and science teacher, Howard Citron challenged students to raise at least 200 dollars and if they achieved that goal both teachers would shave their heads for the cause during lunch hours. ACHS completed Citron and Rigg’s challenge and raised over $235 for Heavenly Hats, becoming part of the $1,800,000 that the organization collected to help people in need.
