On Saturday, September 30, the Antioch Sequoits boys cross country team hosted the Pat Harland Invitational. The invitational took place at Fox River Park in Bristol, Wisconsin. Sophomore Luke Menzies, juniors Eric Hart and Mikey Volkmar and seniors Joe Sculuca, Alex Besson and Andrew Johnson all placed for Antioch. Hart and Volkmar finished in first and second place for Antioch with times of 17:36:01 and 17:36:78 respectively. Overall, they finished in twentieth and twenty-first place in a meet with over 85 runners. Sculuca finished third for Antioch with a time of 17:51:43, placing thirtieth overall. All of Antioch’s runners came together as a team to finish the invitational in fifth place out of a total of 12 teams.

“We picked people [from other teams] off as we killed it on the hills, and kept moving up the ranks,” sophomore Matthew Lawrence said. “We tried to keep a steady pace, and we hustled to the end.”

The Sequoits boys cross country team’s next competition is coming up on October 3 at 4:45 p.m. at Foss Park against North Chicago. This is the first time this season that they have faced North Chicago’s cross country team. The boys have only two meets left to get prepared for conference and the end of the season.
