The Antioch girls volleyball team took on the Woodstock North Thunder on Tuesday, October 24 for one of the the IHSA Regional games at Woodstock North High School.

The Thunder came out strong, holding the girls to only 11 points and winning the first match 25-11. The lady Sequoits fought back in the second match and won 25-17. Antioch finished off the third match with a final score of 25-19. The leaders of the team were sophomore Cenie Frieson, with 8 kills, 7 digs and 10 assists, and senior Kat Barr with 11 kills and 7 blocks. The offense worked together when they needed to and won the game for the team.

“I think our offense did good, but we could have executed balls better,” sophomore Cenie Frieson said.

The team’s defense was outstanding; Barr contributed 7 blocks and senior Brianna Vettese contributed 12 digs. This defense created many opportunities for the offense to score and lead the girls to the victory.

“Our defense was very good,” Frieson said. “We were scrappy and hustled for every ball.”

The combination of the girl’s offense and defense lead them to their 23rd win. Antioch looks to come out stronger for their next regional match on October 26 at Richmond Burton High School, while also looking to advance to the sectionals.
