The Antioch varsity boys basketball team won their fourth straight game last night against the Wauconda Bulldogs, extending their record to 4-0 on the season. The team pulled off a narrow victory, beating the Bulldogs with a tight score of 54-50.

The Sequoits’ offense put them ahead in the second half, allowing them to take control of their end of the court. Though the offense allowed the Sequoits to stay in the lead for most of the competition, it was the defense that kept them in control of the very physical game.

Antioch’s scoring came from junior Daniel Filippone who had 23 points, senior Branden Gallimore with 13 points, junior Jack Gillespie with ten points and senior Andrew Hare with eight points. Timely shooting and successful free throws were some of the biggest contributors to the Sequoits’ offense.

Although the Sequoits pulled off this win, they are not satisfied with the way that they played and know that there is still plenty they need to improve on.

“Honestly, we didn’t really play very well,” Gillespie said. “We need to work on executing [plays] and learning to work well together.”

Antioch’s goal for the rest of the season is to continue this win streak, ultimately winning conference and, eventually, another regional title.

The Sequoits’ next game is at Grant Community High School against the Bulldogs on December 6. The boys look for their next win as they face-off against one of their biggest conference rivals.
