Athlete Profile: John Petty

Back and better than ever, John Petty returns to the Sequoit baseball team this spring.

With Spring finally on its way, a new sports season with all of its returning athletes begins. Sophomore varsity baseball player John Petty will return to his team this spring ready to pick up right where he left off.

Although it is only Petty’s second year on the Sequoit baseball team, one would not be able to tell. Petty plays with such dedication and heart one would think he’s been playing baseball his entire life– which basically, he has. Petty’s father, former teacher and coach at Antioch, started teaching his son the game at a young age, and from there he grew into the player he is today.

“I started playing baseball when I was about 5,” said Petty. “My dad had played and coached so I fell in love with baseball from as long as I can remember.”

And lucky for the Antioch team, Petty stuck with it. His positive attitude and good outlook on all situations proves to be a huge strength in his athletic career. Although he is just recently coming back from an injury, his optimism on his upcoming season is quite inspirational.

“I am really excited for this upcoming season,” said Petty. “I think our team will have improved from last season and there is definitely a lot to look forward to.”

Look forward to seeing Petty and all of the other Sequoit baseball players hit dingers this spring.
