Returning and brand new baseball players gathered together this week from February 28 to March 2. Due to the fact that tryouts have not yet come to a close, team placements have not been announced yet. Many boys from all levels came out and gave it their all and prove their skills to hopefully make Varsity.

“I still have a lot to learn,” sophomore Nicholas Baum said. “But this season especially, I really want to improve my ability to prove that I belong on Varsity. I really think with a lot of hard work, we have a chance to make it to state this year.”

Last season, the boys made it to regionals, but lost their second game against St.Viator. After last year, the team has their eye on making it to state.

This season we have a lot of players with experience to be at the Varsity level,” Varsity coach Christopher Malec said. “We went 17-15 last year, so this year’s team is looking to make a run in the state tournament. They’ll need to continue to improve on the mound if we want to make it there, especially with this year’s new IHSA pitching regulations.”

Facing rival teams like Lakes and Grant, the boys baseball team will have a lot on their plate, but with determination, the team will have no problem catching whatever challenges that are thrown their way.
