Winter Storm Jonas, which swept across America’s east coast this past weekend,  claimed the lives of at least 37 people. This snowstorm not only hit the East Coast but the Mid-Atlantic as well. Deaths have been reported in Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia. Causes of these fatalities range from vehicle accidents and hypothermia-related incidents to heart attacks while shoveling snow.

In addition to lives lost, Jonas left the rest of the residents in the East trapped in their homes. Burying parts of some states in a few feet of snow, this blizzard put a halt to the travel and normal lives of citizens in the eastern region, as snow plows have not yet reached all the cities.

“If I’m living in the neighborhoods I mentioned, I’m not going to be happy this morning,” Queens Mayor Bill de Blasio said in an interview with the New York Post.

Locals reportedly were not pleased to still see their streets unplowed this morning, but officials like de Blasio said they are doing all they can to ensure the roads are cleared soon.
