The Antioch boy’s varsity soccer team went up against Vernon Hills on Tuesday night at the Antioch home field. The Antioch boys started strong with smart offensive plays, but were soon overwhelmed by the opponent’s strengths.

“Vernon Hills had speed on us,” sophomore Troy Coleman said. “I don’t feel like we had a bad game, we were just unlucky.”

Vernon Hills challenged Antioch with their scoring abilities all throughout the game. The first half ended with a score of 2-0 in favor of Vernon Hills. Defense was key for Antioch to force Vernon Hills try harder if they wanted more goals.

“The highlights of the game were some amazing saves by our goalies,” sophomore Eli Ruano said. “Ian Gugel and Joey Whittall helped keep them from scoring more goals.”

In the end, the Antioch boys could not match the other team and lost to Vernon Hills 3-0.

“Our goal as a team is to work on keeping up communication, especially in our defense,” sophomore Trevor Niznik said.

Antioch faces North Chicago today, September 13, and the team hopes to beat them by correcting their mistakes and improving upon them going into the future.
