Flipping through the television guide any day of the week, it is not hard to see that creativity is certainly running dry when it comes to thinking of an original television series. Channels are filled with dancing and singing contests, rerun sitcoms and trashy reality television. The latest hit that is sweeping the nation? Naked reality television.

First it was Discovery Channel’s “Naked and Afraid,” which is essentially a knockoff of “Survivor,” only this time the contestants are doing it all in their birthday suits. Next came “Dating Naked,” a new take on “Finding Love” made by VH1. The newest naked hit is “Buying Naked,” where the reality stars go house hunting completely nude.

Why is naked the new trend? One can only blame it on the lack of originality left in television and the sheer curiosity of viewers.

Although these shows receive good reviews and have many viewers, it is hard to wonder if they take it one step too far. With all the nudity and exposure, they are certainly not for family viewing, and furthermore, it is belittling to the contestants to be completely exposed on national television.

Entertainment should not have to be provocative to keep viewer’s attention. Let’s all just go back to the good old days of classic game shows and family friendly sitcoms and save the nudity for private.
