In a shocking upset, a once always red state has gone blue as Democrat Doug Jones won the Senate election over Republican Roy Moore in Alabama.

This came to a shock to Alabama as they have been a red state for the past 25 years and many thought it would continue to stay this way, despite the sexual allegations that came to light throughout Moore’s campaign.

Although Moore did not call Jones to concede, President Donald Trump, who had openly endorsed Moore throughout his run, tweeted out a congratulatory message after it was announced Jones had won.

“Congratulations to Doug Jones on a hard fought victory. The write-in votes played a very big factor, but a win is a win. The people of Alabama are great, and the Republicans will have another shot at this seat in a very short period of time. It never ends!”

Jones is expected take a seat in Senate at the beginning of 2018, as Alabama has to certify all the votes and the Senate will adjourn for a break December 22.
