Ed Sheeran’s New Album “Divide” Draws Attention

Ed Sheeran’s new album “Divide” is breaking loose on America’s top music charts.
Ed Sheeran had not released music since 2014 with his album titled “Plus,” making his fans itch for a new release. When he announced on Twitter that he would be releasing a new album in March after being off of social media for over a year, his fans went crazy.
Released to the public on March 3, “Divide”‘ features a wide variety of music, something Sheeran has began to do on his more recent albums. In his last album, Sheeran incorporated rap into his music, changing up his normal, slostyle of songs. In “Divide,” there are many songs that incorporate a faster pace, such as ‘Eraser,’ the first song on the album, and ‘Shape of You,’ one of his top-selling hits.
Along with trying out rap, Sheeran also produced upbeat songs in his album, creating excitement amongst his fans. His new album features a song titled ‘Barcelona,’ which uses a wide variety of instruments. Sheeran also switched some of his words to Spanish to include a different language in his music, something he normally does not do.
‘Barcelona’ drew so much popularity that it captured the attention of Shawn Mendes, a famous pop singer. Mendes raved about the song and the album on Twitter after it came out.
“Barcelona has me dancing guys,” Mendes wrote.
Of course, an Ed Sheeran album would not be the same without his typical slow, melodic songs. A few favorites off of “Divide” are “Perfect” and “Supermarket Flowers,” both romantic songs.
“I like Ed Sheeran because he is a great performer,” teacher Arnold Glapajone said. “I love singing along to his songs. The thing about his new album is that he has his normal slow songs, but also has some upbeat songs. The variety is really great.”
After the release of “Divide,” Sheeran also released his North American tour dates. There are 48 concerts in the United States, along with many European shows Sheeran will be hitting before coming to America. Sheeran will be coming to Chicago’s Allstate Arena on September 15, 2017. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 17, and will likely sell out quickly.
