Facebook is a place where people go to share their life news, whether it be good or bad.

Using photos, videos or articles users are given the opportunity to update and to express to all of their ‘friends’ on their latest accomplishments. However, the new Facebook update has taken ‘likes’ to a whole new level.

The new form of liking is called a ‘reaction’. Facebook gives users six options: like, love, wow, “haha”, sad, and angry. To add a ‘reaction’, hold down the like button on a computer or cellular device and slide to see the ‘reaction’ choices. It is that simple.

According to Facebook Newsroom, Facebook has been conducting research for over a year within focus groups and surveys to determine the types of ‘reactions’ people would be likely to use the most. Also, they tested how frequently people used certain emoticons when commenting on posts to determine what ‘reactions’ to offer.

Fellow Facebook users had interesting input about the new update.

“I think Facebook’s new reactions are super cool. It gives feedback to the people who post stuff on their feed and makes Facebook even more user friendly,” said junior Madison Zoot.

Senior Brianna Chastain said, “Facebook’s ‘reactions’ are very helpful to social media users because they let you fully express your opinion towards someone else’s posts.”

In today’s society, it is important that each voice is heard. Opinion is good, but can also cause unnecessary drama. With Facebook’s new ‘reactions’, people are allowed to express exactly how they feel while scrolling through their feed.
