On Friday, Nov. 21, the Antioch Community High School girls varsity basketball team beat Taft with a final score of 71-47.

It was a huge win to start off the Niles North tournament. The girls never gave up and never stopped scoring. The Sequoits were up the whole game, forcing the Eagles to constantly chase after them. The score was 39-22 at halftime.

Halftime did not destroy the Sequoit’s momentum as they never gave in to the Eagle’s pressure. The girls scored 25 more points in the third quarter and only allowed Taft to gain six. By the end of the game, all five starting players had double figures.

The leading scorer, with 16 points, for the Sequoits was sophomore Amy Reiser, closely followed by senior Carly McCameron with 15 points.

“I was really impressed with the fact that all five [starters] got double digits,” said sophomore Amy Reiser. “We all played really hard in the game and it definitely shows in the stats. This just makes me even more excited for the rest of the season to see what else our team is capable of.”

Head coach Tim Borries was proud of the win and is looking towards the future for a successful season.

“That’s the ultimate goal in basketball, to play all five together on the court, play as one and when that happens you get five girls in double figures. You know that’s what we want to do,” said Borries. “I’m happy with their effort. I’m happy with the win. We’re young, yet were experienced. We have a lot of youth but we have upper class-men. We have quickness. We have height. We have the total package. It’s up to them to put it together and if they can put it together it will be a very very special season for us.”
