Giving Back for the Holiday Season

Giving+Back+for+the+Holiday+Season

The holiday season is a time when people are a little more generous. Everyone is looking for ways to give back to either their community as a whole or to individuals within the community. There are many ways to do this, even in the small town of Antioch.

A popular location for helping people in need is Open Arms Mission. Every season Open Arms organizes a new drive to help people in the community. On top of the holiday drives, there are many ways to help out in the food pantry itself. They are always in need of people to help take food orders and people to collect the food. This is a simple way to help out the pantry as it requires very little time or skill, but it is a very appreciated job.

Another way to give back is to donate new toys to Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots is a toy drive that happens every year around the holidays. The United States Marines sponsor toy collections all over the country. They load all the of toys up into trucks at the end of each drive and store the toys until later in the year. Once the holidays come around, the toys are loaded into trucks again and driven to different states. Then parents are allowed to pick out toys for their kids to help brighten their holidays. Collection bins are located in stores and businesses all over Antioch and Lake County.

Ever heard of the show Duck Dynasty? Then you’ve probably heard about Uncle Si’s new project. He is helping out with Operation Christmas Child this year. Operation Christmas Child is where people fill a shoe box with toys and other small things to give to a child in need for Christmas. To make a box, simply follow the instructions on Operation Christmas Child’s website.
