On the night of February 24th, Lakes Community High School hosted a Heroine and Opioid Awareness meeting.
There was a panel of Lake County Community residents set out to stop the use of heroine in the Lake County area. People on this panel included a state attorney, the Lake County chief of police, and a dew people that were willing to share their stories about heroine recovery.
Lake County Board member, Linda Pederson said, “The overall goal was to get the word out about heroine in Lake County. The stories told really hit home and helped everyone become more informed.”
Major points that were covered during the meeting was how serious this issue really is. Anyone can get addicted to drugs, even when something as simple as taking a few pain killers.
CEO of Nicasa said, “There is seven times more heroine if the Chicagoland area than there was 10 years ago.”
Luckily, the people on the panel were people dedicated to treating and preventing heroine addiction. Other than the panel members, the people that were at the Heroine Awareness meeting also made a big impact just by showing up and listening to the problem.
By coming to community events such as this, more and more Lake County community residents can spread the word about heroine and opioid drug abuse.
