Girls varsity basketball crushed Round Lake 59-39 Dec. 4. The Lady Sequoits dominated the game, leading by over eight points the entire game.

The Sequoits came out fast and strong as the quickly took the lead. The girls flew ahead 19 points before Round Lake could even make a single basket. By the end of the first quarter the Sequoits led 33-6.

During the 2nd quarter, the girls held onto their well-earned lead. Sophomore Olivia Ori sank back-to-back 3-pointers to secure the lead for the half: 51-15, Sequoits.

“As a captain I tell my teammates to always give it our all no matter what and coach Borries always tells us that ever second matters,” senior Alexis Duehr said. “I think this is the first game where we displayed that.”

Although in second half the Sequoits were only able to score 8 points, they kept the Panthers to only 24 points. The second half of the game was more of a trial for Antioch as they attempted new strategies and rested some key players for the upcoming Lakes rivalry game on Saturday.

The game ended with another Sequoit victory, 59-39, brining the team’s record to 8-0 total and 2-0 in conference.

“This Round Lake game was important to win to keep our undefeated record and stay in first place in conference,” said Duehr.
